Chapter 1
Thunder

I walked calmly down the pathway, wincing as a branch flicked at a fresh wound. Dew soaked my pelt and fog clouded the dreary sky, and the air was very humid. It was early in the morning, and the full moon glittered in the sky with the last remaining stars.
I stopped at the clearing's edge, flicking my tail without a word. My followed, breathing heavily, stopped as well. Scenting the air, I checked if the others had arrived yet. My mouth told me that no one else was in the clearing with the large stone, where I and four others had been named Leaders just a moon ago. My paws tingled with anxiety, itched to walk down the hillside and claim my place on the rock. But my mind told me to wait, so I did.
Still as a mouse, I flicked my gaze around the rim of the scoop in the earth, spotting a familiar black-and-white feline. Shadow. Or should I call her Shadowstar, seeing as we had all been renamed at the First Gathering. That night all cats had fought, and I was one of the four victors. The others had been Shadow, River, and Wind. I was Thunder, known for my strength and battle strategizing. The others had their own strengths. Shadow was very stealthy and beautiful, if you could not hide from a fight she could stop a tom right in his tracks in just a wink. After that, she could simply attack and kill or severely injure him.
River was very smart and clever, and knew almost everything. He could outwit any cat, and was fair and reasonable. He made a strong leader, stronger than I was. Though he lacked brute strength, he had everything else.
Wind was fair and pretty in her own way, and she was the fastest cat anyone ever saw. She could run forever, it seemed, and dash circles around any cat that dared to race her.
As Shadowstar emerged from the brush, Clan in tow, Windstar darted out of a shrub and dashed right for the Great Rock, climbing to the top in a flash.
Shadowstar chased after and gracefully leapt upon the stone as well, licking her white chest. "That was rude," She commented, her tail twitching.
Both Clans followed their leaders and sat in the appropriate sections of the clearing, giving nasty remarks about both leaders' actions.
I slowly walked out of the bush I sat under, trotting my way elegantly down to the rock, where I climbed to the top and sat, looking around the clearing. The cats were all silent at this point, and without any words spoken, my Clan went to their spot and sat, calm as I'd ever seen them, working as a group.
Turning to Windstar, I licked my paw before asking her what I was thinking. "Where is Riverstar?"
She pondered this a moment, before responding. "I don't know, Thunderstar. Has he forgotten the agreement we all made?"
Before I could respond, Riverstar appeared at the edge of the clearing. "No, I have not. You are all early, I am just on time." He and his Clan flowed down the side of the scoop like a river, and when they reached the Stone he simply clambered up the side, rather than jumping.
"Is something wrong with your legs?" I asked without thinking, and immediately regretted asking.
"No, they work fine, thank you. I just decided not to jump, because I saw many paw-holds I could use." He said cleverly, as always.
Now that all four leaders were atop the Great Rock, Shadowstar announced the Gathering start.
Beginning her report, she swept the remaining fall leaves from the rock with her tail and stepped to the front of the rock. She announced that all was well in the Clan, and that hunting was good. A she-cat was pregnant.
Windstar nodded and took her place at the front, also telling of good news. Riverstar also had nothing bad to report.
When I stepped forwards, I heard some whispers about my latest scar, which looked like a lightning bolt down my face. It suited me well. Memories of the night before, when I had gotten it, seeped into my thoughts.
"Last night my Clan was attacked." I heard gasps throughout the other Clans, and my fellow leaders all stood, none willing to take blame.
"It was not any of you," I glared at them, and they sat again. "It was cats from the south-eastern boarder. I fear they may raid all of you as well. They worked as a team, and killed my warrior Skyfire. He was brave and we will all miss him. But I think the attackers may strike again, and I ask for my fellow leaders' support in this time of need." I pleaded, and at that moment I heard a yowl from a cat to my right. Spinning on my pads, I saw that the disturber was not from the Clans. He had dark fur and his eyes gleamed blue like ice. His claws were sunk into the earth, and his teeth were bared and yellowed. I saw many pairs of eyes glinting behind him in the bushes.
"Who are you?" I challenged, my loud voice booming like thunder across the clearing.
"I am Blood, and I will rule this forest."
This isn't done yet. I like how it is going. I hope all of you like it too. This is based off of a story I wrote a long time ago, and that was based off of Erin Hunter's Warriors. Thunderstar, Windstar, Riverstar and Shadowstar are not mine, but the rest are.
